What did I learn today

I often reflect on the times spent around the dinner table with the kids, discussing our daily activities and sharing our experiences of the day.  When our blended family moved out to the farm and we established a routine in that old country kitchen in which we would all take turns sharing what we learned today,  -  or yesterday, or within the past week.

The ideas was not so much to get an education, but rather give every one an opportunity to share what was on their mind and encourage us all to reflect about the good in every day. Some days we would debate scientific findings and other days we simple commented on the weather.  Simple opinions were not allowed unless we could back our statement with some kind of 'proof'.
"liver is yucky" would be disallowed but "eating liver makes me gag" is
acceptable.  ;-)

Although most days we all had a turn to start right after giving thanks, some days we would not get around to everyone.  The first to speak might dominate the conversation that day and other days we would really have to stretch to think of something good to share. We could not simply glance down at a newspaper, or regurgitate what we discovered at the table.  Visitors and friends were always encouraged to participate, and I believe we all grew and bonded from the experience

It is in this spirit that I will share some of my encouraging moments of the day, - or the week.  I may ramble on with too much excitement at times or simply thank God for the weather.  I hope to keep it unique and regular, and an accurate reflection of my life.  It is my desire that just one story or learning experience may also touch you in an uplifting and positive way

If I had to start this blog by sharing what I learned today, I would have to say that I really miss those conversations.  They not only helped to educate me, but I learned the dreams and ambitions of my spouse and children on a daily basis. I learned that communication has to be deliberate and intentional. and I learned that relationships are the 'glue' that keeps family's together, and must be intentionally applied with as much focus and direction as the typical question we would pass around the table - "So? - What did you learn today?"

As always, I hope you go out and choose to make it a great day!
your smile becomes contagious,
Blaine
